Divisions 2-4
Tredegar moved into second place of Division Two when they hammered Gwent rivals Rhymney by 32-11, scoring five tries and jumping over UWIC, whose match at Llantrisant was called off.
Brynmawr came off the bottom of the table with a surprise win over Seven Sisters by 25-10 that included drop goals by Phil Withers and Steve Jones and Maesteg rose two places to fourth after a 26-19 win at Pencoed as Matthew Pearce contributed 11 points.
The big match in Three West was at Cwmavon, where they played a 29-29 draw with British Steel. Both sides scored four tries with Anthony Gardner’s interception score looking like winning it for the home team, until Steel fly half Gareth Lewis kicked an equalising penalty.
In Three East, Builth Wells became the second club to score a century of points over Garndiffaith, yet despite losing 140-7 and conceding 22 tries – five each to brothers George and Edward Jenkins – the losers try by lock David Nash, helps keep them above Penygraig in the basement.
Dinas Powys joined Bridgend Athletic on 36 points at the top of Four East after surprisingly struggling to beat Pontypool Utd 11-9 where no8 Chris Thomas scored the only try.
In that division, Fleur de Lys had a fine 31-3 win at Rhydyfelin, while Abercarn scored six tries – two by flanker Warren Edwards – in beating bottom club St Peter’s 36-0.
Four West leaders Aberystwyth were involved in the Cup, so Tumble closed to three points behind them by just edging out Gorseinon by 19-16.
Divisions 5-7
Cwmtwtrch lost their reputation as the worst team in Wales when they recorded their first win of the season in Seven Central as they defeated Aberavon Green Stars 15-0. Their win was not the only surprise of the day as Six Central leaders Taibach were upset at home by Abercrave to the tune of 35-8 with the winners’ hooker Paul Stephens scoring 20 points.
In the same division, Cefn Cribbwr shocked Nantymoel with a 23-15 win, even if the losers had all their points from the boot of former Wales wing Mark Titley, who played at fly half.
Ogmore Vale’s revival continued with a fine 29-13 win at Baglan in Seven Central as Graham Morgan scored a brace of tries.Newport Saracens followed a win at Penarth by increasing their lead in Five
East as they hammered Rhiwbina 62-5 with full back Darren Gregg scoring four tries and six conversions.
Hendy gained a good 16-10 win at Pontarddulais in Five West and in Six West it was Lampeter who won the battle of the top two sides by edging out Neyland by 8-5. In Seven West, Alltwen lead after a 34-7 win over Swansea Uplands in a rearranged match.
Maesteg Quins remain unbeaten with 13 wins in Five Central after a sound performance at Cowbridge while Dowlais lead by ten points in Seven Central. Rhyddian Scott scored all the points as Six East leaders Barry won 16-15 at Bargoed and Blaenavon rocked St Alban’s by 34-5 in Seven East.
Division Five North leaders Llangefni had their match with Bangor called off, enabling Pwllheli and Ruthin to close up on them with home victories.
