Laporte Set To Name 24 Man Squad For Wales
French coach Bernard Laporte is set to name a 24 man squad in Lyon on Wednesday to prepare for round two of the Lloyds TSB Six Nations campaign against Wales.
Laporte and his management team will have to wait until the outcome of the action brought by English citing officer Matt Bayliss against Olivier Magne for alleged illegal use of the boot before knowing if his captain can play at the Millennium Stadium.
Magne is accused of trampling on the head of Italian centre Denis Dallan in last weekend’s game at Stade de France.
With Toulouse full back Nicolas Jeanjean and Montferrand wing David Bory already ruled out of the game in Wales, Laporte will be hoping for a reprieve for his new skipper.
Jeanjean is suffering from a muscle tear in his thigh, putting him on the injury list with fellow full back Clement Poitrenaud, while Bory damaged his ribs against the Azzurri.
Better news for Laporte is that Stade Francais scrum half Fabien Galthie is fit to resume after recovering form a knee injury and is expected to return to the starting line-up with two of last weekend’s replacements, hooker Raphael Ibanez and lock Fabien Pelous.
Toulouse utility back Xavier Garbajosa is expected to fit in at full back, while Montferrand’s highly rated Farid Sid is chasing the wing berth along with Toulouse’ Cedric Heymans.
