With the Wales U16 squad being selected following this competition, seventy five players will be looking to stake their claim for this squad in readiness for the two U16 internationals at the end of the season.
Following trials and training session in the respective regions, the coaches have put together squads that feature several ‘old’ faces as well as numerous new ones.
Members of last seasons Wales U16 squad feature in all three regional squads, notably Michaela Reed (Morriston) in the West, Hannah Szigetvari (Llantwit Fardre) in the East and Meriel Edwards (Bethesda) in the North.
Wales now enjoys more junior teams than senior teams, all of which have less than two seasons rugby under their belt. With the World Cup just around the corner this May, these players will be in pole position for the next competition in 2006 and if they continue to develop as they have done to date, women and girls rugby in Wales will continue to progress.
