West Is Best
Despite rain and gusting winds, over 90 enthusiastic girls participated in the rugby festival that acted as a showcase of girls rugby to pick the Welsh U16s squad.
The West district side opened the tournament with a 7-0 victory against North Wales. Hannah Davies (Llandeilo) crossed for the line with club mate Eulon Davies converting. Cwmbran’s Branwen Scrivens scored the only try for the East in their encounter with North Wales. The final match of the round robin tournament between East and West Wales ended in a scoreless draw demonstrating the equality of development in the districts.
A list of 28 players will be chosen for the Welsh U16s High Performance Training Squad that will be introduced to nutrition, weights and personal lifestyle development at a training camp held over Easter.
National Director of Rugby for Women and Girls Richard Hodges said: “Despite the horrendous weather, all the girls showed high skill levels indicating the strength of girls rugby in Wales.”
