Jarvis The Hero Once Again As Neath Triumph Up North
GLASGOW 20, NEATH 27
Lee Jarvis took centre stage for Neath as he scored 17 points in another major triumph for the Welsh All Blacks.
In what was Glasgow’s first appearance of the year in the Welsh/Scottish League at Hughenden, the Sxcottish side crashed to another miserable defeat against Welsh opposition.
Hot on the heels of their massacre at Newport the previous Friday, when they conceded nine tries in a 55-5 defeat, they slumped again.
A drive by lock Steve Martin paved the way for the opening Jarvis penalty and the Neath outside half hit the mark from 40 metres soon after.
Jarvis then made it 9-0 with his third goal before opposite number Tommy Hayes replied got Glasgow going with a penalty of his own.
The two No 10s continued to trade blows and by half-time the scoreboard read Jarvis four penalties, Hayes three.
They were at it again at the start of the second half, trading penalties once more, before Neath skipper Gareth Llewellyn crossed for a rare try.
Now the visitors were on the charge and, after Hayes had bagged penalty number five, No 8 Nathan Bonner-Evans drove over for a second Neath try, which Jarvis this time converted.
Hayes kicked Glasgow down to within five metres of the Neath line and the home pack worked Jon Petrie over for a try which the outside half failed to convert.
Scorers: Glasgow: Try: J Petrie; Pens: T Hayes 5. Neath: Tries: G Llewellyn, N Bonner-Evans; Con: L Jarvis; Pens: L Jarvis 5.
