Nine Tries For Scarlets As They Keep In Touch At The Top

LLANELLI 62, CAERPHILLY 18
Llanelli ran in nine tries to finally swap Caerphilly after the visitors had stayed very much in touch in a highly competitive first-half.
Victory for the Scarlets kept them in touch with Welsh/Scottish League leaders Newport.
The home side could mange only three tries in the opening 40 minutes and were happy to be ahead 24-13 at the break.
A try by the Tongan international Tauna’holo Taufahema shortly after the Scarlets had opened their account with a penalty try showed what potential Caerphilly had and a conversion and penalty from Luke Richards, allied to a penalty from Lyndon Griffiths, kept the Castlemen in touch.
It took two tries in as many minutes just before the break to settle Llanelli. John Davies was driven over for the first and then Irish international scrum half Guy Easterby got a second.
It was a different story in the second half, however, as the tries came thick and fast.
Dafydd Jones crossed three minutes after the restart and Wales wing Mark Jones, returning to action after a lengthy injury lay off, got another.
By the end of the game Llanelli had rattled up nine tries and Gareth Bowen broke through the century mark in the league with three conversions and a penalty.
