Edinburgh Put Cardiff To The Sword
EDINBURGH 32, CARDIFF 10
A miserable week for Cardiff, that included a knee injury to Rob Howley and a transfer for Craig Quinnell to Saracens, ended on a dismal note as their Welsh/Scottish League title challenge took a huge dent in Edinburgh.
The Scots’ scored two tries in quick succession in the first half as Kevin Utterson and Derrick Lee crossed in the space of three minutes. Duncan Hodge converted both.
The home lead was stretched to 17 points when Hodge added a penalty and the only points Cardiff could muster came from the boot of Iestyn Harris with a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
There was no let up in the second half as former All Blacks skipper Todd Blackadder grabbed try number three for the home team and Hodge stretched the lead to 27-3 with a conversion and penalty.
A late Cardiff rally saw them grab a try through replacement Nick Robinson, which Harris converted, but Edinburgh rounded off a superb evening for them with a fourth try from David Officer.
