Mefin Davies Sets Sights On International Prize

Pontypridd’s Wales A hooker Mefin Davies has got plenty to play for in the final weeks of the season.
Whilst the former Neath dynamo will spearhead Pontypridd’s bid to reach the European Shield final on Saturday, he also has one eye on a place in Steve Hansen’s Wales squad for the two-match summer tour to South Africa.
A string of excellent performances this season has catapulted the modest forward into the public eye. Now, when the eyes of the world look to the Kassam Stadium this weekend for the PARKER PEN SHIELD battle against London Irish – Davies knows that this could be his chance to earn his place in the party for South Africa.
“I will be shocked if I get a call to go to South Africa, but if the call did come I would jump for joy,” said Davies.
An international call would certainly be the icing on the cake of a sweet season for Davies. What’s more, it has been a remarkable rise in fortune for Davies who, this time last year, was released by Neath.
“You get your highs and lows and for me, there have been more lows than highs. The key is how you bounce back. Winning on Saturday would mean so much to both myself and the club.”
Pontypridd have progressed to the semi-finals with one or two stunning victories, including the quarter-final success at Saracens. But standing in their way are London Irish who last Saturday taught Northampton a lesson when they sank the Saints in the Powergen Cup at Twickenham.
