Ponty Warm-up For Cup Double With Nine Tries
PONTYPRIDD 59 EDINBURGH 27
Pontypridd received the perfect boost ahead of their two-pronged cup assault
with a nine try drubbing of Edinburgh.
The valley commandos face Llanelli in Saturday’s Principality Cup final before a date with Sale Sharks in the PARKER PEN SHIELD European final.
But all attentions were fixed towards finishing their Welsh/Scottish League
campaign on a high note infront of their home fans.
Gareth Wyatt got the ball rolling after just 30 seconds for the first of his two tries after running the Edinburgh defence ragged with a glittering burst.
That opened the floodgates for an avalanche of tries with Sonny Parker and
Ceri Sweeney bagging two a piece.
Brett Davey, who was in lethal kicking mood, also helped himself to a try on the way to a 19-point haul before Gareth Baber leapt from the bench to get in on the act.
A demoralised Scottish side notched four tries thanks to a double from
Kevin Utterson and scores from Craig Smith and Steve Scott.
