Big Derwyn Returns To Cardiff

Big Derwyn Returns To Cardiff

Derwyn Jones has been unveiled as the final piece of the team Cardiff management jigsaw which now includes seven former players.
Jones, a former Welsh international, brings with him a wealth of experience
that as Cardiff Rugby Club Chief Executive, Robert Norster explains will be of huge benefit to the team.
“Derwyn has developed through his schoolteaching in the Midlands as well as his work with BBC Radio Cymru and this can never be a bad thing,” said Norster.
Jones won 19 caps for Wales and played 184 games for the first team in his
days at Cardiff and he’s relishing coming ‘home’ to the Arms Park.
“I’m delighted to be back at Cardiff, I’ve had two years in education and I
thought I was settled. But as soon as the call came to come back it was an
easy decision to make.”
Derwyn will be linking up with former team-mate David Young who is now Head
Coach at Cardiff RFC.
“It’s my first season in charge and he’ll certainly take a lot of the admin pressure off me,” said Young.
“We all know that we’ll get 100 percent commitment off Derwyn as well as a lot of experience.”
This is a point reiterated by Jones himself.”I’ve seen and done most things in rugby, I’ve played abroad as well and hopefully I can pass on my experience to the younger players at the club.”
The former lock-forward now joins, Robert Norster, David Young, Geraint
John, Mike Rayer, Howard Stone and Bob Newman as part of the new Cardiff management team.
Between them these seven players appeared in over 1500 games for Cardiff.
Bob Norster added: “There’s a lot of experience here and hopefully these appointments will take the club and Welsh rugby forward.”
