The first points came within the first minute when fly half Awen Thomas scrambled the ball over the line to score. Thomas then converted the try to give Wales an early 7 – 0 lead.

The Welsh forwards dominated up front, but the passing in the backs meant they squandered chances although they were not helped by the poor weather conditions.

It wasn’t until the thirtieth minute that Wales increased their score when prop Amy Broadstock picked up the ball from a ruck and dived over the line.

Awen Thomas again converted. The game had no sooner restarted when winger Claire Flowers made a 70-yard break and outpaced the Army’s defence to score with Thomas adding her third conversion.

Just before half time, a mistake by the Army winger, Joy Brown, was punished when Rhian Williams intercepted the ball and offloaded to Jamie Kift, who ran in under the posts. Thomas kicked her fourth conversion bringing the half time score to 28-0.

Wales made several substitutions in the second half. April Dent made a big impression in the back row and powered through the British Army defence on several occasions allowing Non Evans to add five more points.

The Welsh backs then began to put together some good passages of play and five minutes later Evans scored a carbon copy of her first try bringing the final score to 38-0.

Wales now meet the British Police on the 20th December at Cwmbran RFC (7.15pm KO).
