The Wizards just held off a determined Bonymaen side by 26-20 on Sunday afternoon with both sides crossing for three tries, but fly half Jamie Davies added three penalties and a conversion to his try.
Pontypool stay ahead after Byron Hayward converted all his side’s eight tries and added in a penalty in Friday’s 59-11 win over Blackwood at Pontypool Park. Hayward has now become the third Welsh player to pass 2,000 league points.
Bedwas scored a resounding 60-25 win on Saturday morning against Narberth, who slipped to their seventh defeat. The home side ran in eight tries – 3 to wing Nathan Hill – while Naberth wing Nick Jones touched down two of their three tries.
Glamorgan Wanderers gained a 3-0 home win over Newbridge when full back Jason Pocock landed a second-half penalty, though Newbridge’s kicking ace Jason Williams missed the match with injury.
Llandovery retain second spot after scoring ten tries in a 63-5 beating of bottom-placed Treorchy with new signing Gareth Jones bagging 23 points and Neil Clapham crossing for three tries.
Worse news for Treorchy was that Rumney drew 26-all at Tondu thanks to a later try by Glyn Welsh, a former Tondu scrum half. It was the second by Welsh, while debutant wing Henry Amadife scored a try and Chris Day, loaned from UWIC, added three conversions.
Llanharan gained another useful win as they defeated Beddau 20-11 at the Dairy Field with Paul Morgan placing five penalty goals and Anthony Carter scoring the sole try.
