Williams Calls For Commitment

Wales forward Steve Williams believes the Dragons must show the same desire they displayed against England when they resume their RBS 6 Nations campaign against Scotland in two weeks.

The Northampton second row knows that although Wales ‘sorted themselves out’, there is much more work to do to become a serious competitor in the Six Nations.

Wale’s next game is a trip beyond the UK’s northernmost border, to face the also winless Scots.

With both sides yet to register a victory, the match-up in Edinburgh on 8 March is being billed as the wooden spoon decider.

And Williams believes if Wales want to win matches, they must produce the commitment and passion they showed against the world ranked number one team each time they take to the pitch.

“Every time you step on the rugby field you have got to be able to come off it and be able to look yourself in the eye,” he said.

“Everyone spent some time alone after Italy to go through it and it took us a while to pick ourselves up.

“You find whatever makes you tick and you have to put it down to one of those days. We just sorted ourselves out – that’s the bottom line.

And Williams speak for the whole nation as he looks back at a match that restored a degree of Welsh pride and optimism.

“We’re disappointed because we felt we could have scored a couple of tries against England and we gave them a couple of soft ones. But there is a gulf between the two teams, no denying that. They are one of the best sides in the world.”
