Madden Missing For Murrayfield

Madden Missing For Murrayfield

Llanelli front row Martyn Madden has been forced to pull out of the international squad with a recurrence of a shoulder injury.

He is definitely out of Wales’ RBS Six Nations game with Scotland, and early reports suggest the injury could keep him sidelined for several weeks.

Martyn Madden has established himself as a first choice during the past year, and news that he will be unavailable for the crucial match with the Scots at Murrayfield will be a big blow for the Wales boss.

Both sides are yet to register a victory in the RBS Six Nations.

It had been hoped Madden would return to the international fold this weekend after missing the first two matches of the Six Nations after injuring his shoulder in a brutal Welsh Premiership game against Cardiff, a game that also saw Stephen Jones break a thumb.

Jones has now recovered, and is expected to be named in the starting line-up.

No such luck for Madden, who aggravated the problem whilst training with Wales yesterday.

Swansea’s Ben Evans is therefore likely to retain his place in the side.

In other injury news, new Wales skipper Jonathan Humphreys is rated as 50/50 by Hansen, with Cardiff captain Martyn Williams touted as a replacement for the armband should the Bath man be unavailable.

Steve Hansen will name his squad tomorrow.
