Scarlets Focus On Europe
Llanelli’s Welsh Premiership match with Pontypridd at Sardis Road, scheduled for Saturday 15 March, has been postponed until further notice.
The front row injury crisis which started with Wales, Lions and Llanelli hooker Robin McBryde, and is currently challenging Wales’ RBS Six Nations campaign, has come back to haunt the Scarlets with Pontypridd unable to field a front row for the match.
Llanelli had re-arranged this and other fixtures in order to continue playing throughout the internationals and maintain momentum for their Heineken Cup quarter-final meeting with Perpignan in April.
“Both sides are giving players away, with full blessings, to the national squad during this Six Nations period and, although we are attempting to utilise our own squads and play-on, it is unfortunate that on this occasion Ponty are not able to provide cover in key positions.” said Llanelli director of rugby Gareth Jenkins.
“We are trying to build momentum for our Heineken Cup quarter-final with Perpignan and must now rely on the three fixtures we have left, Ebbw Vale and Ponty will both visit Stradey Park in the coming weeks, before Neath arrive for the Principality Cup quarter-final on the first weekend in April.
“Then it’s the biggest match of our club season and the chance to progress to the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup for the third time in the last four years.”
