Prop Amy Broadstock scored two tries, converted by fly half Stacey Saunders, to give to home side a 14-0 advantage after just 10 minutes.

Minutes later a poor defensive kick from North Wales was gathered by Pontypridd centre Jess Kidley who outpaced the defence to score in the corner.

The Ponty backs displayed some excellent running rugby and winger Paula Mullen should have gone all the way after a great break by Lowena Sandercock from their own 22.

The pressure was all Ponty’s in the first half and when North Wales were penalised for offside on their own 5m line, a quick tap penalty from scrum half Amy Day allowed her to charge over the line leaving the half time score 24-0.

North Wales picked up their game in the second half but poor passing and great tackling by Pontypridd squandered any real chances for the visitors.

Stacey Hardie came on for the injured Pontypridd full back and made some excellent runs, creating a try for winger Gemma Williams.

North Wales put their only points on the board when Kate Jones picked up from the ruck and dived over the line. It was a well-deserved try but in the final minutes Pontypridd’s forwards displayed their dominance again by driving the North Wales forwards half the length of the pitch. The backs past it out wide and second row Emma Nelson touched the ball down bringing the final score to 34-5.

Pontypridd, who were without internationals Claire Flowers, Jamie Kift and April Dent, fielded eleven Welsh players, six from the U19s and five from the Development squad. The U19 and Development teams face England U19 and England Academy at Caerphilly RFC on the 23rd March (12pm KO and 2pm KO) The seniors play their final home game of the Six Nations against Ireland on the 21st March (KO 5pm)
