Limerick born Anthony Foley is the son of former International Brendan.
He is a vastly experienced forward who has been a key player in the Munster success story of recent years.
He has a wealth on international experience. He first donned the green jersey as a schoolboy – representing Irish Schools in the 1992 tour of New Zealand.
During the 1993/94 season he played for the Irish Under-21s against England, Wales and Scotland and he played for the Irish Development side against the United States in November 94. A week later he helped Ireland Under-21s beat England at Ravenhill.
In January 95 he won his first cap against England and made his mark by scoring his country’s only try. He continued to impress, and was selected to play the remained of the game in the Five-Nations.
He made just one appearance in the 1995 World Cup, but established himself as a regular in the squad in the following season.
After a brief spell out of the limelight, he returned to the side during the 1999/00 season and has been a regular ever since.
He briefly had a spell as captain in 2001 and his strength in the scrum is a key asset for Ireland.
