The competition was run as part of a rugby initiative, in which the WWRU joined forces with PHS Waterlogic, the UK’s leading mains-fed water dispensing division of Caerphilly based WWRU sponsors the PHS Group. The initiative aimed to promote the health benefits of regular exercise, in particular through rugby and drinking water, to schools across South Wales.
The competition asked schools to send in pupil’s entries of posters with the theme of playing rugby and doing exercise or the benefits of drinking water. Alex’s entry cleverly combined the two themes with a title of “Try a change, convert to water!”.
Alex and his school were presented with their prize of the very latest Waterlogic water dispenser, and a framed copy of Alex’s poster by James Loy from PHS Waterlogic and Becky Dando, member of the WWRU squad. The school also received 50 tickets to take pupils to one of the recent Six Nations Welsh Women’s international rugby matches.
At the presentation, Headteacher of Durham Road Junior School, Mr Jeff Beecher commented, “We are very grateful to PHS Waterlogic for this prize, as water is a very important part of a school pupil’s day. There has been proven research that children who drink water throughout the school day have increased concentration and brain power! We are going to place the dispenser in Alex’s classroom enabling him and his classmates to have easy access to purified drinking water throughout the day.”
