As a result of meetings between David Moffett, the Welsh Rugby Union Group Chief Executive, and representatives of Welsh Premiership clubs today, Friday 21st March 2003, a consensus has been reached on the implementation of a regional structure for next season.
‘The clubs have unanimously agreed they can re-organize themselves into a five-team structure, and in turn we have agreed to put their proposals to the Board of Directors of the WRU, at the meeting next Wednesday evening,’ said Mr Moffett.
In the meantime the two parties will meet to discuss issues that remain outstanding in relation to implementing the new structure.
Their next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 25th March.
At an EGM held on the 23rd of February 2003 an overwhelming majority of the Member Clubs of the Union gave the Chief Executive a mandate to reorganize the professional game on a regional basis.
The five (in alphabetical order) will be structured in the following way:
– Bridgend/Pontypridd
– Cardiff
– Ebbw Vale/Newport
– Llanelli
– Neath/Swansea
