LLANELLI 77-13 CAERPHILLY (HT 29-13)
Llanelli powered past PARKER PEN SHIELD semi-finalists Caerphilly in a 13-try romp at Stradey Park in the Welsh Premiership.
In doing so they gained revenge for the recent 33-20 defeat at Virginia Park with an awesome display that consigns Caerphilly to their third heavy defeat in a row.
Gareth Jenkins’ men never looked like faltering at home, and the Stradey Park fans were treated to a display of attacking rugby they will be more than happy to see when the Scarlets take on Perpignan in the Heineken Cup quarter-final on April 11.
The scoring began after just four minutes through Scott Quinnell, and once the flood gates had been opened, there was simply no way back for Caerphilly.
Garan Evans raced in for a hat-trick of tries with skipper Leigh Davies, centre Matt Cardey and replacement wing Wayne Proctor also claiming a brace apiece.
All Caerphilly could muster was an interception try from former Llanelli favourite Justin Thomas after 28 minutes, and seven points from the boot of Luke Richards.
Trailing 29-13 at half-time, Caerphilly coach Mark Ring may have hoped for a reversal of fortunes in the second period, but, when Davies crossed just one minute into the second period, it was lights out for Caerphilly.
The home side scored 48 unanswered points in the second period to record their biggest ever victory over Caerphilly – beating the 74-22 victory in the 1999-2000 season.
