Wales Development Beat England Academy

Wales Development continued their winning ways when they beat England Academy at Caerphilly RFC on Sunday. Tries from second row Julie Newton and No 8 Emma Phillips gave Wales a 10-5 lead at half time.

A second half try, from centre Karen Mayze, which she converted, and a penalty try gave the Welsh girls victory 22-10.

It was another excellent performance by the girls with the forwards dominating up front and the backs matching their opposition. Coach Wayne Pugh commented afterwards, “I can’t fault the girls effort and commitment. That’s two wins out of two now – bring on the French!”

The Development Squad will play France in Paris next weekend.

It was a different story for the Welsh Under 19s who were outclassed by their English counterparts, 66-0. The English girls were outstanding and Wales tackled hard but the strength and skills of the English girls allowed them to run in 12 tries against the Welsh. There is a lot of hard work to be done before the two teams meet again on the 27th April in Coventry.
