Newport wing Luke Nabaro helped himself to a hat-trick of tries as the black and ambers romped away from their Gwent rivals in the second half at Eugene Cross Park.

The Fijian-born Nabaro, who has played international rugby for Hong Kong, scored twice into the wind in the first-half to help the visitors to battle back to within a point of their hosts at the break.

But after the interval the Newport pack got on top and they proved too strong as they ran in four tries. Not only that, Percy Montgomery added 11 points with his boot and was a constant threat at full back.

Victory for Newport set-up a Principality Cup semi-final shoot out with Bridgend and allows Shane Howarth to return to the home of Welsh rugby at least one more time before heading back to New Zealand at the end of the season.

Ebbw Vale went into an early lead when Mark Meenan crossed for a try which Bryan Shelbourne converted. Shelbourne added a penalty and Meenan a drop goal before the break to give the home side a 13-12 advantage.

But after that it turned into one-way traffic as Newport got on top.Jason Forster grabbed two tries, Nabaro completed his hat-trick and Rod Snow ploughed over for the final score.
