In all the home side outscored their guests by six tries to two.

Newport took the lead with a Percy Montgomery try which he concerted, but that lead lasted a matter of minutes as Bridgend’s early nerves subsided.

Raven’s outside-half Craig Warlow scored a picture book try, and Gareth Cull notched five penalty goals to put Bridgend into the break leading 20-10, a Montgomery penalty goal was the only reply.

The second half saw a Bridgend try blitz, with Warlow scoring his second try before Matt James, Nathan Budgett, Maama Molitika and Chris Horsman got their names on the scoresheet.

A late as Newport rally saw tries by Llyr Lane and Jon Pritchard. Newport’s South African fullback Montgomery weighed in with 18-points, but it was never going to be enough to topple a determined Bridgend side.

Meanwhile, Cardiff easily overcame Swansea 44-22 at Cardiff Arms Park.
