Bridgend kept on course for the perfect season as they made it ten out of ten in the Welsh Premiership with a convincing win over their future allies at Sardis Road.
But their hosts will be disappointed they did not take early chances that many have stopped the Ravens gaining any momentum.
As it was the visitors raced to a 19-0 lead at half-time and never looked like letting their grip on the game go once they had established their advantage.
Bridgend’s Craig Richards opened the scoring with a try against the run of play, which Gareth Cull converted.
Bridgend’s second try of the match came following a sustained spell in the Ponty 22 – wing Paul Jones finding space to score in the corner.
Bridgend scored their third try of the game came as the first half clock ran down, Phil Booth outpacing he Ponty backs to touch down. Cull again converted to silence the home fans who may have been wishing they had stayed at home.
As a contest, the match ended there. An early second half score from Pontypridd centre Jonathon Bryant – converted by Brett Davey – was cancelled out within five minutes with a sublime try from the ever threatening Cull. He chased and collected his own crafty grubber kick, to score a try to crush the Ponty rebellion. He converted to push the gap back up to 19 points.
The final score of the match came in injury time, Bridgend’s Mike Powell scoring the Ravens fifth try, which Cull converted.
Meanwhile, at the Arms Park, Cardiff cruised to a 38-8 win over Caerphilly. The Blue and Blacks recorded their sixth win in 11 Welsh Premiership outings, to take their season total to 19 points, they are in fourth place in the table, Caerphilly remain rooted to the bottom of the division with just six points from their twelve matches.
