Cardiff snatched maximum points at the Arms Park with a dramatic 28-27 injury-time win over Llanelli in the Welsh Premiership

In an scrappy opening period, outside-halves Nicky Robinson and Gareth Bowen swapped penalty goals before Cardiff’s acting captain Pieter Muller scored the first of his two tries

The home side then had flanker Robin Sowden-Taylor sent to the sin-bin for a tackle offence, and Llanelli were awarded penalty try soon after when a five-metre scrum collapsed. Bowen kicked the conversion.

But despite hooker Peter Rogers being shown the yellow card after an altercation with Ian Boobyer to the ground, Cardiff regained the lead when wing Nick Walne sent Muller under the posts. Robinson added the extras.

Llanelli began the second half with a forward drive which saw prop John Davies claim a try, which Bowen improved, but two more Robinson penalties restored Cardiff’s advantage.

Prop Ken Fourie became the third Cardiff man to be sin-binned – their 28th of the season – for a high tackle on lively full-back Lee Byrne, while replacement Ceiron Thomas kicked the resulting penalty.

Thomas then converted after Cardiff centre Matt Allen had a clearance kick charged down and opposite number Tal Selley was first to reach the rebound to score.

Llanelli hooker Adam Yelland was also shown the yellow card after preventing a quick penalty being taken, and the home side capitalised when Walne was sent over by an inside pass from substitute Gareth McCarthy. Nick MacLeod, who also started on the bench, kicked the conversion to see them home.
