The 41-times capped Lewis is currently “unemployed”, having seen his contract with Cardiff come to an end last season. At 34, he is deemed to be “too old” to play for one of the five Welsh regions, yet he is currently being chased by clubs in Ireland and England.
“I really thought I had something to offer one of the regional teams but, at 34, they all reckoned I was too long in the tooth,” said Lewis.
“I had an offer from an Irish club to fill a player-coach position, which really appeals to me, and I’ve also had a few offers from some clubs in England.
“Ten years ago, I turned down offers from rugby league clubs to leave Wales. I felt too committed to the Welsh cause to leave my homeland then, but now it’s a different situation.
“While I’m not keen to leave Wales, I still feel I’ve got one or two years of rugby left in me at the highest level, and I’m prepared to go almost anywhere to prove that point.
“I’ve had some interest from clubs in England and I’m currently contemplating where my future lies. I’ve got some interesting business opportunities in front of me, although I’d really like to carry on playing at the highest level possible.
“I’m still in training and I don’t think it would take much of an effort to get back to peak fitness. I’m just looking to get something sorted before the season starts.”
Lewis is being linked with his hometown club, Carmarthen Quins, and also with ambitious Narberth, but dismisses both rumours as “ridiculous”.
