The Mr Kipling Senior Player of the Year Award was awarded to Non Evans. Non Evans made her debut for Wales in 1996/7 against Scotland. Since then she has played 47 games for Wales scoring over 200 points. Having played at scrum half, wing and centre in previous seasons, Non has played every game this season in the No 15 shirt. Her safety as the last line of defence is sacred with her infamous ‘judo’ tackles and she is an electric runner with ball in hand, making her the top Welsh try and overall points scorer in this season’s Six Nations. Non has represented Wales in the Commonwealth games, twice winning silver medals in Judo and was the first ever female to compete in to separate sports in the commonwealths – weight lifting and judo.
The Mr Kipling Under 19 Player of the Year Award was presented to Wales Under 19 Captain, Eirlys Lougher. The Flanker from West Wales was selected for the Welsh Development squad for the tour to Scotland in May as well as captaining the Wales Under 19s during their Florida tour in February.
The Under 19 management team chose Eirlys as the eventual winner of the award from a shortlist of three with scrum half Amy Day and hooker Sophie Williams also nominated.
The Real Radio Award for Services to the game went to WWRU Chairman Colin Wilmott. It was an award to recognise the hard work and commitment of those behind the scenes. Colin has been involved with women’s rugby for ten years and has played an integral part in the development of junior rugby in Wales.
He has been involved at local, regional and international level, as Manager and coach of the Torfaen ladies, the Newport Super League side and was responsible for setting up the first Wales Under 19 team in 1998.
Rachel Poolman won the Mr Kipling Under 16 player of the year award and Llandaff North WRFC took four awards home winning the National Cup, National League, South Division One and the Mr Kipling Club of the Year.
