Lloyds Tsb National League Division Two Preview

In the West only Cwmavon, Dunvant and Corus (PT) remain from last season’s division and they are joined by Pencoed and Bridgend Athletic from Three East and nine clubs, including champions Felinfoel, from Three West.

Dunvant will have Llanelli hooker Marcus Thomas as player/coach and rumours suggest that he may appear as a centre, but his main role will be to bring on the huge young talent at the splendid Broadacre club.

Again, it is the promoted club who should be favourites. In this case it is Felinfoel, where Jason Davies provided the main source of points when he returned from a spell in the North of England with Blaydon.

Pencoed have always produced fine youngsters, with Scott Gibbs the best example, but they may find life is slightly different against sides in the West. Of the others, Aberavon Quins will be hoping to build around those who play for the Fighting Irish Rugby League side on the Little Warren pitch.

In the East there are seven clubs from last season’s Division Two and another seven from Three East, including the champions, Penygraig.

Merthyr are likely to be among the front runners, but Rhymney have already lost their coaching team of Les Browne and Glen George to Fleur de Lys and respected Abertillery secretary Garth Collier has stepped down.

Opening fixtures include Penygraig-Ystrad Rhondda and Merthyr-Llantwit Fardre in the East and Felinfoel-Cardigan and Pencoed-Newcastle Emlyn in the West.
