Lloyds Tsb National Leagues Preview

In Division One, Tondu, who opened with a 78-0 loss at Whitland, will again field a young side at home to Narberth, who were favourites for the title but came horribly unstuck at home to Llanharan, and the Dairymen are now home to
Whitland.

There will be local rivalry at the Memorial Ground as Glamorgan Wanderers take on Rumney, while UWIC should have returning students to strengthen them against a Tredegar squad, who tumbled to their worst-ever home defeat at the hands of Beddau.

Abertillery are again unable to raise a team and their match at Dinas Powys in Division Two East is postponed with a final decision on the great old Gwent club likely to come before their match against Llantwit Fardre, due to be
played at Abertillery Park on September 20.

Fleur de Lys have their first outing of the season at home to Penygraig in that division, where Ystrad Rhondda will be fully extended by Croesyceiliog, while in Two West Dunvant’s home meeting with Felinfoel and the Corus-Cwmavon match should be of great interest.

There will be no league rugby in North Wales this weekend as a trial match for the District squad will be underway, while Lampeter versus Gorseinon is postponed due to a wedding and the Blaengarw-Brecon and Blaenau Gwent-Blaenavon matches are cancelled due to the withdrawl of the home sides in both cases.

From Divisions 3-5 there will be play in East, West, South-East and South-West with David Bishop now in charge of coaching at Old Illtydians and former half back partner Mark Ring joining with ex-Cardiff prop Bob Newman at St Peters, who are temporarily playing on Blackweir in Cardiff.

Several clubs make a start to the season on Saturday, including Glynneath, Seven Sisters, Neyland, Llangwm, Crymych, Llanybydder,
Penygroes and Llanelli Wanderers in the west and Cilfynydd and Machen further east.

Rhiwbina are the bye team in Five South-East after having begun with a rare away win at the expense of Ogmore Vale.
