Newport Lead The Premiership

After just two weekends of rugby in the Premier Division, only five of the 16 clubs remain unbeaten.

Neath have impressed with their two away victories and Swansea’s young side led by flanker Richard Francis have won twice, as have Aberavon and Cross Keys, though the latter needed an injury-time winner from Scott Mitchell against Bedwas.

Blackwood, with Jeremy Lloyd having returned as fly half, are the unexpected leaders of the Lloyds TSB National League Division One, following away wins at Glamorgan Wanderers and Treorchy. Maesteg, Llanharan and Brynmawr are all unbeaten with Llanharan being the surprise package so far.

In Two East it was more a case of who did not play with three matches failing to start and Abertillery due for an emergency meeting this week. Meanwhile, only Merthyr and Hirwaun have won both matches, but Ystrad Rhonnda are unbeaten after one win and luckless Fleur de Lys have twice had their opponents call off against them.

Amazingly, only Bridgend Athletic and Corus have won both matches in Two west, where Cwmllynfell have a win and a draw, but Dunvant produced a superb second-half comeback to defeat Felinfoel at their beautiful Broadacre ground.

Former Wales halfbacks Dai Bishop and Mark Ring are seemingly inspiring Old Illtydians and St Peter’s respectively in their new coaching roles, while Newport HSOB rocked New Tredegar with a decisive win in Three East and it was good to see Mountain Ash winning for the second time after several seasons with only a handful of successes.

Llanelli Wanderers appealed for front-row forwards and coach Jonathan Mayze appears to have had answers as they came up with a win in Four West, while Resolven marked their comeback with a win in Five South-West and Oakdale gained their first success by winning at Garndiffaith in Five East. Rhiwbina in Five South-East had to kick their heels without a match after gaining an away win the previous week.
