Tonga crash to Italy

Wales’s next opponents, Tonga, crashed to a 36-12 defeat against Italy in Canberra and picked up two yellow cards in a match where neither side gained a bonus point.

The Dallan brothers, Denis and Manual, scored tries for Italy with Mauel notching two on his 27th birthday. Fly half Rima Whakarua, a Maori from Auckland, crowned his international debut with five penalty goals and all

three conversions.

Whakarua hit the target with eight of his nine attempts, while centre John Payne and wing Tevita Tu’ifua crossed for Tongan tries and fly half Sateki Tuipulotu convert the first.

Three yellow cards were issued by New Zealand referee Steve Walsh, going to Tongans Ipolito Fenukitau (in the second minute) and Johnny Ngauamo and also to Italian hooker Fabio Ongaro.
