The Test winger, who can also slot in at scrum-half, was expected to get a run in the eagerly awaited match but is battling the flu.

The news is further bad news for coach Steve Hansen, who lost OspreyS prop Duncan Jones with a fractured fibula during the Italy clash.

Wales won that match 27-15 to secure their place in the World Cup quarter-finals.

Better news for Hansen is that Gareth Thomas, Sonny Parker and Kevin Morgan, who all took knocks in the crucial match against Italy on Saturday, but are all expected to be available for selection this weekend.

Wales have not beaten New Zeland since 1953, but with the All Blacks have been short of competitive matches in this year’s cup, giving rise to hope that this could be the hour of success.
