Player of the Month – JULIAN HOWELLS (Carmarthen Athletic)
Coach of the Month – DOMENICO SETARO (Whitland)
Julian Howells follows Jeremy Lloyd (Blackwood) and Dean Thomas (Tondu) to receive the player of the month award. A fly half, he has scored 153 points so far this season in the league and 1,884 points overall in the top divisions, being in fourth spot behind Jason Williams (now Brynmawr), Neil
Jenkins (ex-Pontypridd, but now with Celtic Warriors) and Byron Hayward (Ebbw Vale).
It was 15 months ago that he decided to retire from rugby. But, just a few months later, the call came and Julian returned to kick goals with even more regularity than before.
He was the Wales Youth fly half of 1988 against Canada and 1989 against Italy and France, whilst with Carmarthen Quins Youth.
Domenico Setaro and brother Frank, who is the team manager, have also played for Whitland with Domenico even scoring two tries this season, thoughFrank’s career had ended with a badly broken leg a few seasons back.
Both played at centre and wing and are both ex-Llanelli players.
The Borderers, as Whitland are known, lost to second-placed Llanharan last Saturday and fell from third to fourth place. It ended a magnificent run of nine straight victories for Domenico and his team and that coming despite losing top scorer Dan Griffiths to Newport’s premier side in the summer.
He follows previous coaching winners in Mark Thomas (Blackwood) and Dennis John (Llanharan).
