North Wales Seniors Beat Super League Leaders

North Wales, lead by Welsh centre Lowri Jones (Bala), started the game with great intensity which was rewarded with a try for Wales Development winger Rachel Brown (Bangor University/Waterloo) after a well executed back move.

Pressure on the East Wales scrum came from superb work by Wales Development loose head Elin Pope-Davies (Wasps), hooker Nia Davies (Dolgellau) and new signing Oriola (Saracens). This pressure created turnovers which lead to a try for Welsh flanker Kylie Wilson (Caernarfon) converted by club team-mate Catrin Thomas.

Despite strong running by Welsh tight head Catrin Edwards (Cardiff Quins) and excellent flanking by Wales Development’s Zoe Eaton (Cardiff Quins), the East struggled to compete in the first half, resulting in a third try for Wales Development flanker Louise Akers (Dolgellau).

The score at half time was 17-0 to North Wales. The East came back in the second half with some strong running in the midfield by UWIC’s Sara Weldon and excellent support play by Jenny Davies (Cardiff Quins). When the North finally got into the East’s 22, the pace of Wales Development winger Manon Williams (Caernarfon) showed as she went around the East cover defence to score. The final score was 22-0 to North Wales.
