Banwen staged a stunning comeback to beat title rivals Maesteg Quins and move eight points clear at the top of Division Three South-West.
Visitors Maesteg led 23-6 early in the second-half but Banwen stole a remarkable 25-23 win thanks to two tries by hooker Nigel Thomas and 15 points by Craig Hughes.
Mumbles stay closely behind Quins after winning 24-20 at Kenfig Hill and Seven Sisters gained a welcome point in a 22-22 draw at Ystalyfera. East leaders
Brynithel were given a torrid time by visitors Pill Harriers but managed to edge home 13-12.
Llanishen also had to pull out all the stops before beating lowly New Tredegar 29-21, while Senghenydd have games in hand on the leaders and could figure in the race for promotion. They registered a 24-23 success over Old Illtydians.
Three tries from Rob Walters helped Kidwelly record a 44-11 win over Gowerton in West. Pontyberem remain the team to beat after winning 26-17 at Hendy and Haverfordwest remain their closest rivals after a 31-19 win at Penclawdd.
Nantymoel head the South-East after beating Tonyrefail 34-11, where Tylorstown had a surprise 27-12 win at Ynysybwl and Nelson upset Mountain Ash by 40-5.
Division 4.
Ruthin maintained their nine-point lead in Division Four (North) but were made to earn their 13-10 victory by a fired-up Rhyl side. Ruthin remain clear at the top though the race is by no means over as Nant Conwy, who kept up the pressure with a 31-12 win over Newtown, still have three games in hand over the
league leaders.
In the South-East, leaders Abercwmboi took advantage of Fairwater’s game being called off to thrash bottom club Old Penarthians 63-0 with nine tries, all converted by centre Neil Burnett, who also scored one touchdown.
Just across the road there was a win for Penarth, who just pipped Cefn Coed by 18-17. Bargoed are clear at the top of the Eastern section and with Blaina’s match in Cardiff against St Joseph’s being called off, Bargoed are now 14 points ahead after thrashing Ynysddu 68-3.
Loughor and Pembroke Dock Quins lead the way
in the West after both gained good away wins – Loughor by 44-0 at Bynea and the Quins by 55-10 at Betws. In the South-West Briton Ferry still lead Taibach by a point after a hard-fought 10-10 draw while Cwmgors went to third as they defeated Glais 22-17 and Alltwen’s match with Morriston was called off.
Division 5.
Top North club Denbigh beat Bethesda 23-15 and in the South-East Llandaff lead with only three matches remaining after beating Cilfynydd 43-24. Bettws gave
a fine display in the East as they beat Machen 28-0 and leaders Trinant beat Nantyglo 20-3.
West leaders Cefneithin gained a 19-5 success at Penygroes, but Pembroke’s 12-9 win at Pontyates was an important result and Crymych won convincingly by 53-0 at Llangwm.
The South-West title is a three-cornered effort with Resolven ahead from Aberavon Green Stars and Tonna coming up on the rails. Indeed, Crynant could
have been there, but they suffered a good 38-6 beating away to Resolven.
The Green Stars kept up with a 51-6 win over Cwmgwrach, but Tonna could yet be the surprise package after defeating Pontardawe 77-0.
