Scotland applied the pressure from the start but Wales defended well and the Scots had to settle for three points from the boot of scrum half Paula Chalmers after ten minutes played.
It was Wales that put the first try on the board when debutant Manon Williams made a superb break down the wing, which was stopped just short of the line. Scotland were penalised and from the scrum Wales got quick ball out to Non Evans who crashed through the Scottish defence to score under the posts. Awen Thomas converted to give Wales a 7-3 lead.
Scotland continued to show their strength up front and a catch and drive line out gave Flanker Beth Macloed Scotland’s first try.
The boot of Awen Thomas gave Wales the lead again when Scotland were repeatedly penalised in the Welsh 22 but poor tackling by Wales in the last minute of the first half gave winger Lucy Millard a try under the posts to give Scotland the lead at the break 10-15.
Scotland came out in the second half and scored two tries within the first ten minutes to put the game out of reach. Scottish replacement Alison Newall added a final try in the closing minutes to give Scotland victory 10-30.
It was a better day for the Welsh Development Squad who travelled to Warwick to play England Students on Sunday. Two tries from hooker Jenny Davies gave Wales victory 15-5. They face Scotland U23s at Taffs Well on Sunday (1pm KO)
Wales Seniors travel to Limerick next week to face Ireland at Thormond Park. (Saturday 3pm) Ireland will also be looking for their first win of this Six Nations as they lost 22-5 against France in Paris on Saturday.
