The quarter-finals of this season’s Konica Minolta Cup will see seven premier clubs joined by Brynmawr from Division One in the matches to be played this coming weekend.

Brynmawr have a splendid home draw against Bridgend and after defeating Cardiff by 3-0 on a Sunday in an earlier round and with the leading points scorer in Welsh League history in fly half Jason Williams, they have every right to feel confident.

Neath have remained favourites since Newport fell 6-3 at Cross Keys, but they eet in-form Pontypridd, who won their only previous meeting – the 1996 final. Dale McIntosh and Jason Lewis (Pontypridd) and Neath’s Patrick Horgan played in that match and could well appear in this tie. Pontypridd go into their seventh successive away tie.

Cross Keys have beaten three Premier sides in the Cup at Pandy Park this season and now take on Aberavon, who have not yet played away.

In the fourth match, Caerphilly entertain Swansea, having lost in their two previous cup meetings. Swansea fly half Luke Richards is well known to Virginia Park fans, having left to go to St Helen’s last summer.
