Jenkins Set To Leave Dragons

Newport Gwent Dragons chief executive David Jenkins is set to leave Rodney Parade at the end of the season as part of a backroom shake up at the Welsh region.

But Jenkins has insisted he will make sure the Gwent club will be in good shape when he parts company at the end of May.

“Discussions are well in hand over the restructuring and with these changes taking place we have agreed to part company,” said Jenkins.

“But I will do everything to see it through until the end of May to hand over and ensure the right infrastructure is in place for next season.”

The move comes after boardroom talks last week where directors agreed to try and lure a high-profile coach to the region after current Dragons boss Mike Ruddock’s appointment as the new Wales coach.

Jenkins, who held similar positions at Cardiff and Bath, leaves one year after replacing current Celtic League supremo Keith Grainger at Rodney Parade and the Dragons board have revealed they will begin their search for a new chief executive this week.

Meanwhile, television rental company Buy As You View will end its £400,000 sponsorship of the Celtic Warriors Academy on 31 May. Décor Frame plc will take over the running of the academy in what is understood to be an amicable split.
