In the Premier Division, Ebbw Vale gained priceless points by winning 27-23 away to Caerphilly, aided by 17 points from former Wales cap Byron Hayward.

Despite being outscored 3-2 on tries and seeing English-born UWIC student Peter Towers cross twice on his Caerphilly debut, the Vale battled back from 23-17
down to snatch a win that jumped them above Pontypool in the table.

Unbeaten Llanharan kicked their heels again in Division 1 as their match at Rumney was rained off, but Whitland produced a last-minute knock-out punch away to Carmarthen Athletic as skipper and lock Phil Morgan crossed for a try that meant a 30-29 win for the Borderers. Fly half Julian Howells kicked 19 points for the Athletic.

Rhymney were desperate for a win in Two East, and they amazed themselves with 17-try 101-6 victory over bottom club Penygraig. Wing Matthew Chard set a club record of seven tries and both eraint Hodges and scrum half Mike Roberts notched hat-tricks. In the West, Pecoed jumped two places after a 41-14 win away to lowly Aberavon Quins.

Division Three East saw fast-rising Newport Saracens defeat Abergavenny 22-7 in a match switched to Tredegar Park and the clubs meet again on April 3 at Bailey Park, while the Saracens have a huge match on Thursday, away to leaders Senghenydd. Pontypool Utd can be pleased with a 12-all draw against Abercarn and Talywain rocked Cwmbran 15-9.

In the West, Trimsaran fell to Penclawdd by 10-5 and in the South-East there was a shock as Tonyrefail beat Taffs Well
30-3.

Division Four South-West saw Amman Utd surprise Briton Ferry 27-15 and despite leading 23-5, Cefn Cribbwr fell at the last gasp to Morriston by 24-23. Tonna are finishing fast in Five South-West and retained third place with a 42-7 victory over Neath Athletic that sets them hard on the heels of Resolven and Aberavon Green Stars.

In Five North there was a rare outing for Bangor, who pounded Machynlleth by 51-15, while Llanidloes fell at home to Welshpool by 26-22.

Sunday saw one quarter-final played in the Konica Minolta Cup as Brynmawr and Bridgend braved the elements with the Premier club winning 17-3 thanks to tries by Richard Dyke and Paul Jones and seven points from the boot of Austen Howells. Fly half Jason Williams kicked a lone penalty for Brynmawr, but Bridgend now go on to meet Neath in a semi-final.

The other semi-final is not settled as Caerphilly take on either Cross Keys or Aberavon, whose match at
Pandy Park was again rained off.
