Veteran Ruthin fly-half John Tudor kicked his side to within touching Distance of the North title with a 6-0 success away to Nant Conwy, but it was bottom club Bala who took the plaudits with a courageous performance to end their miserable 17-game run without a win against high-flying Llangefni.

Bala, who came up as champions of Five last season, were given little chance against the side third in the league but they gained a moral-boosting 14-8 win.

Fairwater’s win over Pontyclun on Friday night put them in front of the South-East, until Pontycymmer rearranged a home game against Aberdare and won 10-3. Both clubs now have 51 points and so have Abercwmboi, who won 31-13 away to Bedlinog.

In the South-West, Cwmgors lead Taibach by one point with three games remaining after both clubs won again, but Alltwen lost ground after a 22-all draw at Pyle.

St Peter’s made a late bid to snatch runners-up in the East, but even their 37-8 win over Crumlin may not stop Blaina taking second behind title winners Bargoed.

It’s a triple-heat in the West as Llanelli Wanderers, Pembroke Dock Quins and Loughor all won again. The trio all have 51 points, but Loughor have three games remaining, the Quins two and the Wanderers only one.
