The 29-year-old fullback scored his 34th Test try against Italy during the Six Nations, breaking winger Ieaun Evans’ national record. If he plays all three Test on next month’s tour of Argentina and South Africa, he will reach the 80-cap mark.

Thomas, who leaves the Celtic Warriors to spend next season at Toulouse, won 80 percent of the votes among the Welsh rugby media.

Scarlets fullback Barry Davies was chosen as the Most Promising Player, and Neath-Swansea Ospreys fullback Gavin Henson was named Most Overlooked Player.

Dragons flanker Jason Forster was second to Henson in the voting, and both players have been selected by new national coach Mike Ruddock for next month’s tour.

Warriors prop Gethin Jenkins and Scarlets scrum-half Michael Phillips were behind Davies in the most promising player award. All three players are going on the summer tour.
