Wru Announce Two New Key Appointments

The Welsh Rugby Union has made two key new appointments as it gears up for the new season and beyond.
Group Chief Executive David Moffett has taken on board the former Wales captain Paul Thorburn as his ‘Special Projects Manager’ and recruited Liz Jones as the Union’s ‘Communications Manager’. Both Thorburn and Jones will take up their new positions next month.
“I’m delighted to have recruited these two very talented Welsh people to add an even greater degree of professionalism to our team at WRU headquarters,” said Mr Moffett.
“Paul has vast managerial experience and will play a key role in helping us to prepare for, and make the most of, our involvement in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He played a central role in the administration of the 1999 tournament as ‘Tournament Director’ when Wales was the host nation.
“In addition, he will be able to fall back on his time as both captain and player for Wales as we seek to make the most of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the WRU in season 2005/2006.
“Liz will take up a new post of ‘Communications Manager’ and brings with her a wealth of experience of working in professional rugby during her five years at Westgate Sports Agency. Not only has she worked very closely with the Union in that time, but she had a season as the Press Officer at one of Wales’s leading clubs, spent three years in France working with their ‘Top 16’ teams on Heineken Cup and Parker Pen Challenge Cup matters and speaks four languages, including Welsh.
“She will become the first port of call for all media queries regarding the WRU and will be responsible for both internal and external communications.”
