‘We’ve built up some momentum with recent results but this is a scary trip because there could be complacency within the squad. We have spoken about that and to win we have to keep our attitude up,’ said Dragons Coach Chris Anderson. ‘Sometimes your attitude in training and the way you approach games changes, without realising, because the pressure is off you. So we need to go up there and put the game to bed. We will be upset if we don’t come away with the points, anything less than that is unacceptable. So we have to be professional in our approach.
‘It’s not about throwing the ball around and scoring a hundred points, it’s about doing the hard stuff and putting the game to bed. It’s a more nervous game for the coach than the players. It’s an easy week for the coach when you play the likes of Leinster, you don’t have to build anyone up because the size of the task motivates the players.’
But if recent form continues fans in Gwent need not be too concerned about the threat of the Scottish strugglers next weekend. It’s now a dozen straight defeats for the Scotsmen and another reversal on Friday would equal Caerphilly’s unwanted Celtic League record of 13 successive losses in 2001 and 2002.
The Dragons won both Celtic League meetings between the two clubs last season running in a dozen tries to three in the process with Percy Montgomery helping himself to 37 points!
