Aaron Bramwell and Matthew Jeffreys crossed for the Ospreys who were combative throughout, but the Scarlets were always in control and ran in half a dozen tries.
Stephen Davies and Ian Jones got the ball rolling for the visitors with outstanding tries and Liam Davies, Roger Davies, Andrew Williams and Luke Marsh followed up to make things safe. Aled Thomas, of the Scarlets’ academy, converted three to ease the visitors clear.
The Blues also got off to a winning start – they won 24-7 against the Dragons at
Lloyd Ryland of Bridgend Athletic and Pontypridd’s Chris Clayton crossed for early tries for the Blues whilst Dai Flannagan, also of Pontypridd, converted both and added a penalty.
Flanker Alex Murphy added a third try for the Blues in the second half and Flannagan’s conversion made it 24-0.
However, the Dragons did manage a consolation when centre Gavin Ferguson bagged a try that
Meanwhile at under 18 level, the Cardiff Blues found old rivals Newport Gwent Dragons too hot to handle at
Jack Bird opened the scoring for the Blues with a first half try, whilst Christian Ballor converted and added three penalties.
However, once the Dragons found their rythym there was only ever one winner.
No.8 Lewis Evans struck with the Dragons’ first try and after that there were four more – two for Jimmy Norris and one apiece for man of the match Rhys Jones and Ashley Smith.
Jones added five conversions and a drop goal for good measure as the Blues leaked 21 points in the second half.
In the other under 18 game, the Ospreys were unfortunate not to win at
Tony Lees struck first for the Ospreys but John Davies struck back for the Scarlets after a break from Martin Thomas, to level matters and Thomas converted and added a penalty for a 10-5 advantage.
Michael Thomas of Bonymaen levelled matters with a try, and Brynteg outside half Nicky Roberts, with a penalty, gave the Ospreys a sniff of victory.
Sadly for them, that was taken away in the dying minutes when Rhys Williams popped over for a try that Thomas improved.
Blues South under 16s got off to a winning start, against the Ospreys at Pentyrch thanks to a late penalty from outside half and captain Phil Williams.
The Ospreys led 5-0 at the interval courtesy of an unconverted try from right wing Steffan Davies, but a minute into the second half, Adam Foley raced from his own half and touched down for Williams to convert.
A pin-point drop goal from Daniel Biggar restored the Ospreys’ lead 15 minutes from time, but Williams delivered when it mattered most to earn the Blues a 10-8 victory in front of nearly 200.
Not such a good start for Blues North who went down 27-15 to Llanelli Scarlets at Aberdare.
Mike Powell and Ashley Macey crossed for the Blues’ tries with Luke Davies adding a penalty and Owen Davies a conversion.
For the Scarlets, there were tries for Geraint Peachment, Nicholas Cudd and Matthew Lemon with Daniel Evans kicking two penalties and three conversions.
