JOHN INSISTS BLUES SHOW WAS NO SURPRISE

The Blues will be hoping to go one better than last weekend’s narrow 23-19 loss at Kingsholm when they welcome the Cherry and Whites to the Arms Park on Saturday.

“Everyone said how well we did at Gloucester but at the end of the day we were all disappointed to lose a game we always felt we could have won – especially after leading late on,” said backs coach John. “Not many gave us any hope of doing well there but we always knew the potential was there to put in a good performance even with all the injuries that we have.

“But we’re not getting carried away. Both teams have had a chance to size each other up and now we are both going to have to come up with something different on Saturday.

“The scrum and lineouts both went well for us – Robert Sidoli was outstanding – but we know that we have a few areas to work on if we are going to get that elusive win.”

The Blues have eight regular first team players out injured – including influential Robinson brothers Jamie and Nick – though are hoping that scrum-half Ryan Powell is fit.

Powell will undergo a late fitness test on his bruised ribs that forced him out of last week’s clash before the Blues name their team.
