ROB HOWLEY WINS PAT MARSHAL MEMORIAL AWARD
Other winners include his fellow Welshman Gareth Edwards, Mervyn Davies, JPR Williams, Jonathan Davies and Robert Norster as well as super stars; David Campese, Jonah Lomu, Jonny Wilkinson and England’s World Cup captain Martin Johnson, a three-time winner and former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio. The award is presented by the Rugby Union Writers’ Club and named after the famous Pat Marshall.
The Scrum-half, who toured South Africa in 1997 (had to fly home early due to a broken collar-bone) and Australia in 2001 with the Lions and won more than 50 caps for Wales, was forced to retire earlier this season because of a serious wrist injury. He had hoped to be apart of next years Lions tour to New Zealand. He will receive the award at next month’s annual Rugby Union Writers’ Club dinner in London.
