Williams a doubt for England
The pint-sized Cardiff Blues flyer was crocked during their Heineken Cup defeat to Stade Francais at the weekend and is now unlikely to play before the Championship kicks-off.
“He has been ruled out until the week before so it will be very tight as to whether or not he makes that game,” said Cardiff Coach Dai Young. “The only consolation is that it was initially feared he would be out for up to eight weeks, which would have been just frightening for both the club and Rhys. An x-ray showed there was no break but a scan has highlighted some ligament damage.”
Williams, 24, has already won forty caps for and scored fourteen tries for Wales though has slipped behind Newport Gwent Dragons wing Hal Luscombe in the pecking order following Mike Ruddock’s arrival.
The news comes just days after mop-haired prop Duncan Jones was ruled out for six weeks with a broken thumb. Better news is that his likely replacement, Gethin Jenkins, is set to return from a back strain for Cardiff against Ulster this Sunday.
