LLOYDS TSB LEAGUE NEWS
Division One.
Whitland snatched the lead of Division One in an amazing game with only fly half Aled Davies getting on the score-sheet with a second-half penalty to defeat Builth Wells 3-0.
Maesteg, without a game, fell to second, and Llangennech held third spot as they defeated Fleur de Lys 31-0 with tries by Brad Kierstad, Mark Bowen, Kevin Jones and talented young scrum half Chris Davies.
Two tries by centre Nathan Walters helped Beddau gain a 26-20 win at Bonymaen after wing Chris Batsford had scored an early home try, while veteran Graham Evans scored for Carmarthen Athletic, but they fel 18-14 at Blackwood, for whom centre Jamie Jones scored another brace of tries.
Narberth won 37-0 at bottom club Brynmawr with wing Elgan Vittle (2) Adrian Killa and Andrew Bowen going over and Gareth James kicked 17 points. Glamorgan Wanderers had tries by Andrew Crowley and Lewis Collins in a 17-6 win at Bridgend Athletic and UWIC gained a splendid 33-14 win over Tonmawr with Phil Dolman kicking 18 points to add to tries by Harry Trelawney, Richard Whyffin
and Nathan Trowbridge.
Division 2.
Newport Saracens and Ystrad Rhondda are neck and neck in Two East after further good wins and Waunarllwyd kept six points ahead of Cwmllynfell in the West after defeating Nanymoel 40-10.
The Saracens scored a 26-13 win at Hirwaun and Ystrad Rhondda won 30-13 at home to bottom club Risca, while Merthyr registered a good 24-3 success against Rumney at The Wern.
In the West, Dunvant regained form by defeating Felinfoel 25-3 and Kidwelly kept in touch by winning 28-17 at Cwmavon.
Division 3.
Bargoed notched tries by Gareth McCarthy, Darren Humphreys and Gary Jones and defeat a game Pontypool Utd for a 17-10 win – their 13th successive – in Three East and Loughor did exactly the same in the West, but their 14th win was a narrow 10-3 home success over battling Trimsaran.
Pill Harriers held second place in the East after a good 33-0 victory over Rhymney and Gorseinon kept their second spot behind Loughor after defeating Tenby Utd 22-8.
The South-East battle for the top saw Mountain Ash and Rhydyfelin win again with the Old Firm scraping home 16-14 at Gilfach Goch and Rhydyfelin remaining unbeaten by turning back Nelson 23-8.
Maesteg Quins lead the South-West after beating Vardre 20-0 and five clubs are just three points behind, though Alltwen fell to defeat at Nantyffyllon.
Division Four.
In the East, Pontllanfraith remained top after just holding off Cardiff HSOB 17-10 and Crumlin returned to form to defeat St Peter’s 22-3. In the West, Amman Utd extended their lead by thrashing Burry Port as Neyland fell 23-19 at home to Laugharne.
South-East leaders Fairwater were without a match and Aberdare made ground with a 14-13 success at Bedlinog, while Penarth stayed in touch with a narrow win at lowly Pontyclun.
In the South-West, Resolven and Tonna stayed in front after home victories over Aberavon Green Stars and Maesteg Celtic respectively, but Briton Ferry fell off the pace after losing at Heol y Cyw.
While North leaders Llangefni were winning at Dolgellau, Mold gained a splendid 18-13 victory at Nant Conwy.
Division Five.
Nantyglo remained unbeaten with a 14th success in the East, but only by 12-5 at Gwernyfed, while Caldicot pulled off a sock by turning back Machen by 17-0.
In the West, Pembroke won 8-0 at Pontyates to remain two points ahead of Llangwm with New Dock Stars in hot pursuit.
South-West leaders Abercrave routed Cwmtwrch 60-3 away in a division where Glyncorrwg pasted Cwmgwrach by 88-7 and in the South-East a lone Justin Lott penalty took South Wales Police home by 3-0 over Blaengarw as Cilfynydd fell to a 15-11 home loss against Cefn Coed..
North leaders Bala kept ahead of the pack with a 20-6 win at Bro Ffestiniog and bottom club Rhos surprised Rhayader by 14-12.
