Henson struggling with groin injury

Henson struggling with groin injury

The 22-year-old utility back scored all twenty-two points in the Ospreys last gasp Celtic League victory over Ulster on Friday night, but he admitted after the game the niggling injury is a cause for concern.

“I’m struggling to sprint, as everyone could see when I scored my try,” said Henson after guiding the Ospreys to a 22-21 home victory that keeps them on top of the Celtic league. “I’ve been struggling with the injury for a few weeks now and I can’t run properly. My kicking is alright, but I can’t sprint. The injury is in the back of my mind, but I hope it will be alright for the England game.”

Having already lost Henson’s Ospreys team mate Duncan Jones for the Championship opener on 5th February with a hand injury, and still worrying about Colin Charvis’s ankle problems, Wales Coach Mike Ruddock will not want to risk losing one of his most potent attacking weapons.

Ruddock was at St Helen’s to see the Ospreys scrape home and must have been concerned at the way Henson tied up in the final ten metres of his fifty metre sprint to the line for his side’s only try of the night.

“We are aware that Gavin has got a bit of a groin strain. We will monitor his progress this week and modify his training so that, hopefully, he will be OK for England,” said Ruddock.
