And now, having each been signed by the stars themselves, are to be auctioned to raise further funds for the disaster appeal.

Pupils from the special needs school visited the Millennium Stadium’s own Art Studio for a day of mural painting with Project co-ordinators Pippin’s Designs Ltd, thanks to sponsorship from Careers Wales, family baker Warburtons and Arts & Business Cymru’s New Partners scheme.

Jon and Sally Phillips, directors of Pippin’s Designs, spent 2 days tutoring a class of Ysgol Erw’r Delyn pupils, aged 15 to 17. The group also enjoyed a tour of the Stadium during their days out and experienced first hand some of the preparation that goes into such a major event.

The class, along with Youth Trainees from Careers Wales Mid Glamorgan, painted portraits of the 18 stars and acts who attended the concert on Saturday 22nd January. A larger group mural of the Acts will become part of the Stadium’s Community Art Gallery, which is fast becoming the largest display of Youth and Community Art in the World.

Signed portraits of Eric Clapton, Manic Street Preachers, Kelly Jones, Lulu, Catherine Jenkins and Feeder, among others, will be auctioned on www.millenniumstadium.com/tsunamirelief. All money raised will go direct to the Disaster Emergencies Committee for distribution to the areas devastated by the Tsunami.

Sally Phillips, Artistic director for the project said: “Not only were we deeply effected by the unfolding of this tragic event, we were also really moved by the level of commitment shown by all those who have worked so hard to make this concert such a success. Even as a small enterprise we knew there was a contribution that we could make and we hope that the hard work we, the children and our sponsors have put in, will make a genuine difference to those still suffering in Southern Asia.”

Arts & Business, the UK charity dedicated to encouraging new and sustainable relationships between the private sector and the arts, matched Warburtons’ sponsorship to make the day possible. Rachel Jones, Arts & Business Cymru’s Director said: “I’m delighted that we can join with Warburtons to support the Tsunami Aid Appeal. This disaster has touched all of us and it’s gratifying to be able to help raise money through this creative partnership.”
